Also known as Type 1 Portland cement, general purpose cement is a binding ingredient used in concrete mixes with or without other binders. Type GUL cement is suitable for all purposes where the special properties of other types are not required. Unlike ordinary Portland cement (GU), which can contain up to 5% limestone, Portland cement with limestone (GUL) is made by adding a proportion of 6% to 15% limestone to Portland cement clinker at the time of mixing.
