The Cleveland Taper, Plug, and Bottoming Hand Tap Set, model 1004, is designed for threading in a #5-40 UNC (Unified National Coarse) thread size. This set includes three taps made from high-speed steel (HSS), ensuring durability and resistance to wear. The taps feature a bright surface finish to minimize friction and improve performance.
The set provides three taps with different chamfer styles—Taper, Plug, and Bottoming—suitable for starting, cutting, and finishing threads at the bottom of a hole. The taps are straight flute, with three flutes to facilitate efficient chip removal and smooth cutting action. They are right-hand cutting, ideal for most standard threading applications.
Each tap has a thread pitch of 40 threads per inch and a thread length of 0.6300" (16.00mm). The overall length of each tap is 1.9400" (49.28mm), and the shank is square with a width of 0.1100" (2.79mm), ensuring a secure grip during use. The set comes in a Rose Plastic® UniBox case, providing convenient storage and organization.
